The Warriors Forest is a 4 year old *mostly* traditional warriors role-playing site, set more or less in the old forest (think first series). Though we don't have a Tribe of Rushing Water, we do have all other clans and, of course, loners, rogues, and kittypets. Ranging from beginner to advanced, with lots of intermediate, we have a role-playing school that can help you with anything from mechanics to length. Currently, we have no plot, but hopefully one will be in the making soon. For any further questions, please feel free to ask around or contact any one of the staff, who will be happy to help.

// Foxpaw
It felt nice out today. The sun was high in the sky, and their was a faint breeze that kept the air from getting too humid. The undergrowth rustled as a lithe ginger form slipped out of the brush. The figure, a dark ginger tom, padded across the grassy clearing toward the edge of the river. His bushy tail flicked back and forth with anticipation. The tom was Foxpaw, a young RiverClan apprentice. He always loved coming out to hunt by the river alone. It gave him time to think, and he could catch some prey for the Clan. When the tom reached the river bank he flopped down on the soft ground, staring into the current. The silver flashing of fish swarmed all over the water, and Foxpaw licked his lips. He lifted a forepaw up, hovering it over the water, and waited patiently.
Before long he saw the chance for a catch and flashed his paw down into the water, scooping a large silver fish into the air. It flopped onto the bank next to him, and he killed it with a swift blow from his paw. Foxpaw pushed the fish farther up the bank where it couldn't slip back into the water and turned back to the shimmering water. As he gazed down into the water gain, a bright green leaf floated past, carried by the current. The scene caused his stomach to turn.
"Streamleaf..." the young, ginger tom murmured under his breath. Streamleaf, a grey tabby she-cat with eyes like emeralds, was Foxpaw's best friend in all of RiverClan, not to mention his little bit of a crush. He sighed as his yellow eyes followed the leaf downstream. He had thought he and Streamleaf had been getting along well when they were apprentices together, but she was a warrior now... It seemed different.

Streamleaf
The young warrior was slipping through RiverClan territory easily, her thick light grey pelt keeping the leaf-fall breeze from chilling too much. She was on her way to the river to catch prey to bring back to camp. She was on the dawn patrol this morning and decided that even though she wasn't sent out with a hunting patrol, she should go and catch something anyways.
The she-cat had just been recently made a warrior and was extremely satisfied. Thrilled! She was getting closer to the river and the scent of a Clanmate mingled amoung her senses. She stopped to figure out who is was... If it was a Clanmate she didn't like she would rather move on. But, actually, it was quite the opposite. It was Foxpaw!
Foxpaw was her best friend in the Clan, they had trained as apprentices together. But, being older than him, Streamleaf had moved into the warriors den without him. She misse his company, but she still saw him around camp and they would be together more when he was finally made a warrior, her green eyes sparkled.
She spotted him through the reeds that grew near the river. He was looking at a leaf floating through the stream. She grinned and crouched down, her haunches shaking a little with an aticipation. Then, she sprang. "Gotcha!" she said loudly. She stretched out her front legs to land upon his back.

Foxpaw stared down the river at where the leaf had disappeared into the current. Was it a sign? Was he not supposed to like Streamleaf? Would it only end in disaster? As he sat fretting on the edge of the river, fishing completely forgotten, a familiar scent washed over him, it's sweet aroma pushing the worrying thoughts from his mind. Streamleaf! Foxpaw's chest swelled. He was just standing up to look around for her when a cheerful yowl burst through the air, and a weight landed on his shoulders. Knocking him to the ground.
"Gotcha!"
Foxpaw gasped for air as his friend's body pressed down on him. He managed to let out a rasping purr as he wriggled underneath her, his pelt damp from fishing. "Get offa me will you? You're crushing me!" His tail flicked across Streamleaf's flank as he continued to writhe in her grasp, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Get offa me will you? You're crushing me!"
Streamleaf mrrowed a laugh and jumped lightly off of him, her paws making no noise as they hit the sandy bank of the river. She looked over her light grey shoulder at him, her green eyes glinting with laughter. She peered over the edge of the river and checked to see if the fish were swimming well. She licked her lips as she thought of sinking her teeth into a nice, fat one back at camp.
Another leaf floated by in the river and it reminded her that Foxpaw had been watching one with a weird inteseness in his eyes. She wondered why? She decided to ask him, she meowed, still staring into the river, "Why were you staring at a leaf?"
She turned her gaze upon him, a smile in her eyes.

Foxpaw grunted as his gray furred friend released him. When he straightened up and composed himself, he saw her staring into the river intently. The mischievous glint returned to his eyes as he stalked up behind her. The ginger tom raised up on his hind paws, ready to shove his unsuspecting clanmate into the cold water, but he froze as she spoke, still staring intently down at the current.
"Why were you staring at a leaf?"
Foxpaw's yellow eyes stretched wide in shock. She had seen? Did she suspect anything? The RiverClan apprentice dropped down to all fours again and padded up to sit beside her. He didn't dare to look at her, in case she saw his feelings reflected in his golden gaze. He stared down at his own reflection in the current: ginger fur, bushy tail curled around chocolate-brown paws, right ear torn and scarred. He absent-mindedly flicked his injured ear, feeling the strange numb feeling in it from the scar tissue that never healed after the snake bite. He finally broke free of his thoughts, and looked up at his gray tabby companion. "I... I was just thinking..." Foxpaw sighed, shaking his head in frustration. "It reminded me of y- ... Someone..." The ginger tomcat hissed inwardly. Mouse-dung! He had almost said it. why couldn't he build up the courage?

"I... I was just thinking..." Foxpaw sighed, shaking his head in frustration. "It reminded me of y- ... Someone..."
Streamleaf noticed his blunder in his speech but didn't really take any notice. It was just like Foxpaw to mess up his speech. Her eyes glittered happily. She slid her gaze over to her friend, it was warm and loving. They would always be close, she told herself. The thought gave her comfort.
She turned away from him and back to the river, watching the fish slide by quickly, unknowing that one of their comrads would become supper for a RiverClan warrior. Her light grey paw flashed into the river, claws hooking onto the scales of a fish. She flung it onto the bank with the whip of a forepaw, and it landed and started to thrash around in vain. She hopped over and killed it quickly. She turned to look at Foxpaw and said warmly, "You turn, apprentice." She never really gave him a hard time about still being an apprentice, since he couldn't help the fact, but she just let out the word this time.

Foxpaw took comfort from Streamleaf's warm green eyes. He followed her gaze back down to the stream where the silver backs of fish flashed in the depths. Foxpaw watched with an unreadable expression as his friend flicked a shining fish out of the water, hoping over for the killing blow. He let out a purr as she turned back to him. "Nice catch!" he mewed.
"Your turn, apprentice."
Foxpaw growled teasingly at Streamleaf, swatting a paw playfully at her. "Right then. See how an apprentice does it!" He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye, and turned back to the water. He watched as silver forms slipped past in the current, and, finally, flicked his paw down into the depths, scooping out a large silver fish. He finished it off in a single blow, and pushed it up to his first catch. Foxpaw smirked up at Streamleaf. "Beat that!"

Streamleaf
"Right then. See how an apprentice does it!"
Streamleaf purred a chuckle at his loud said comment. She knew he was going to make a good warrior, it was obvious. She just wanted to tease him like best friends do. She watched as the ginger tom flung a fish from the river, splashing her face with droplets of water as it went. He swiftly killed and then meowed, "Beat that!"
Streamleaf laughed and leaned over the side of the water, waiting for a nice, big fish to come swimming within striking range. Her newleaf green eyes were intent on the goings-on of the river. There! That fish was going to be hers! She flashed out a paw, claws unsheathed. She felt them hook onto its gills. She was a bit sloppy from over confidence, and when she started to fling it from the river, it splashed back into the water and swam quickly down stream.
She sat back on her haunches, light grey ears drooping, a bit embarrased. She had been so cocky with her skills she let herself be careless about how she caught the prey. She had done it plenty of times, especially when she was an apprentice. She looked at Foxpaw and said, "Ha, you win." Her eyes glittered a little despite her low feeling.

A warm feeling erupted inside Foxpaw's chest as Streamleaf laughed. He loved the sound, like song birds to his ears. He watched intently as the gray she-cat leaned over the river again, spotting the fish only moments after she did. Foxpaw managed to stiffle a mrrow of laughter as Streamleaf's catch flopped back into the river. He turned to her with amusment in his eyes, but it was drowned out when he saw how absolutely downcast she was over it.
Foxpaw padded up and sat down next to her, his eyes brimming with concern. He rasped his tongue gently over his friend's ear, purring slightly. "Everyone makes mistakes. It was bad luck." he mewed, hoping to cheer her up. If their was anything Foxpaw hated, it was seeing his best friend unhappy.

"Everyone makes mistakes. It was bad luck."
'Foxpaw is such a great friend', Streamleaf thought as she leaned into him with a friendly purr. She rubbed her cheek fur onto his, her eyes shut. His ginger pelt was warm against her thick, grey one. She opened her eyes as she started to stand and walk further down the river. She nodded her thanks to him and said, "You're the best!"
Her green eyes shimmered as she bounded further down the river. She hoped, even though she knew it wouldn't come true, that she could find the big fish again and get a second chance. She wouldn't mess it up this time! These thoughts consumed her mind and Foxpaw was pushed to the back of her head, she didn't realize that she was leaving him there sitting on the bank of the river.

Foxpaw purred loudly as Streamleaf brushed her cheek against his. The feeling sent chills down his spine, and he felt like sitting there forever. The ginger tom let out a sigh as his friend pulled away, beginning to pad farther down the river. His yellow gaze stared after her, completely bafffled, as she called over her shoulder.
"You're the best!"
Foxpaw was left sitting on the riverback, his eyes filled with utter confusion as he muttered a reply. "Yeah.. no problem..." If he was so great why did she walk off like that? The ginger apprentice shook his head as he rose quickly to his paws and bounded after Streamleaf. She-cats are so weird! he thought. "H-hey! Wait!"

Streamleaf
"H-hey! Wait!"
She jumped a little at the loud call from Foxpaw, now realizing she had left him sitting down the river. Her bright green eyes looked over her shoulder and she saw him hurrying after her, his ginger handsome ginger pelt shining in the sun. Handsome? 'Did I just say Foxpaw was handsome?' She asked herself.
She began to reason inside her head. 'No, no... Just his pelt. He has nice fur!' She yelled to herself, 'Thats all I meant... I think...' She was starting to get confused. She turned and trotted down the river bank, hearing Foxpaw's pawsteps behind her told her that he was still following. She stopped and shook her head, trying to sort herself out.
She turned to face Foxpaw and said, "So... What are we doing now?" She laughed a little, she was usually the first to come up with ideas, but now she was all flustered and didn't really know what was going on.

Foxpaw slowed down to a trot as he came up behind Streamleaf. She was stooped over slightly, her gray pelt a little disheveled. She looked a little flustered, and her green eyes were troubled. Foxpaw was about to ask what was the matter when she turned to him. Her emerald eyes looked more normal, although he still saw a little bit of the strange expression in them. He wasn't completely convinced she was alright when she started speaking, but he didn't press it.
"So... What are we doing now?"
Now he definitely knew something was wrong. In all of the moons he had known Streamleaf, Foxpaw had never heard her ask for ideas. Gazed at her with concern in his yellow eyes, and waited several moments before he replied. "Er... I don't know. I guess we could finish your patrol." The ginger tom stepped forward and rasped his tongue over his friend's ear. Look over concern in his gaze growing deeper. "Are you alright?" He asked, pressing against her flank.
{Sorry for the short posts. I'm a bit museless for Foxpaw right now. :\ }

"Er... I don't know. I guess we could finish your patrol."
She turned to him when he said this, a little confused for a second. Then she realized that she didn't know that she had just come out of camp driven with boredom, not by orders. She said quickly, "Oh, I'm not on a patrol." Then he asked her something else:
"Are you alright?"
She knew that he would notice her awkwardness as she stared almost blankly into the river. Her pelt warmed when he pressed his nose into her grey tabby pelt. She ran her tail over hisn head and said, "Yeah of course, I'm fine." Her green eyes glittered at him.

Foxpaw never took his eyes off of Streamleaf. He gazed at her beautiful gray fur, and stifled a mew of worry. He desperately searched his best friend's expression with concern in his yellow eyes. The ginger tom was a little taken aback when Streamleaf turned to him with a look of pure confusion on her facial features. If she wasn't on patrol, then why was she out here. Maybe she just came out to get some fresh air.
"Yeah of course, I'm fine."
He quickly pushed the concerned thoughts from his mind, however, as Streamleaf's gray tail brushed over his head. He purred loudly, and pressed his ginger flank against her gray one. The warmth was comforting, and he relished their closeness. "If you say so." he purred, rasping his tongue over her ear gently.
