[attr="class","twfptcontent"] [attr="class","twfpth1"]TRUE TO HIS PROMISE, [attr="class","twfpth2"]Panic goes over the rules in excruciating detail, clearly unwilling to leave nothing to chance. Though tedious - several times you had to stop yourself from yawning - you feel weirdly reassured by the end, a feeling that only grows as Panic patiently answers your (not so many, at this point) questions. Despite his obvious adherence to Consortium tradition, it's clear he cares deeply about making the Sanctuary the best place it can be. When you are both satisfied, he leads you to the door of the farmhouse. He glances at you, and you can swear you see him smile slightly, breaking the sternness of his face, before he enters. A moment later, and it becomes clear why. Until now, you have only been outside the Sanctuary, have only seen the farmhouse exterior and the mass of green that towers above its roof. You've heard, and imagined from the hearing, what it is like inside, but nothing in your daydreams comes even close to measuring up to the real thing. The roots of the oak are massive, huge, ancient twisting ropes that merge into an equally enormous trunk and, together, tether the earth to the sky. The tree's growing punched a hole through the floors and the roof, and the heavy weight of dark, mossy branches broke down and through the farmhouse walls. Still the shapes and structure of the house remain, half-open floors ringing around the tree's trunk, and the tangled eruption of branches overhead sends dappled light falling across every surface and into every corner. Everywhere you look there are cats, with the scents of many more besides, some moving purposefully, others resting on branches or in hollows or in parts of the house. They are easy, comfortable, assured in the neutrality of this space, safe in the sanctuary it provides. A hum fills the air, a melodic lilt of conversation and the buzzing of insects and the singing of birds and the voice of the tree itself, leaves sighing and rustling in a gentle breeze. High above, the branches sway in this unfelt wind, but you can see the half-hidden shapes of cats there, too, suspended high above the Earth in a bower of green. It's as if you have discovered the beating heart of some ancient forest. You are left breathless, and when you finally remember Panic and turn towards him, speechless, you can feel the awe written all over your face. That a place like this would exist in the city! Even standing here, now, you can barely believe it. "Welcome to the Sanctuary," he says, and now his amusement is clear, but he's not making fun of you - he is proud of what his family created, what it has maintained. "Please, make yourself comfortable and feel free to ask if you have questions. Members of my family can help you, but we also have many regulars staying with us, or those who come just an hour or so, for the company." He nods at two nearby cats, battle-scarred and clearly rogues, their heads bent in deep discussion over the remnants of their dinner. In any other place they would have been at each other's throats. In fact, you're pretty sure the one on the left chased you out of his territory yesterday, threatening unspeakable violence if you ever returned. As you stare at him he glances at you, blinking in recognition, but his relaxed posture doesn't change and no light of vengeance flares into his eyes. "As I said." Panic has followed your line of sight and clearly put two-and-two together. "The Sanctuary is a place of peace." He turns back to you, suddenly all business again. "I apologize, but I am needed elsewhere. Before I go, let us settle your payment." ⬩⬩⬩ The price of entry into the Sanctuary is one piece of useful or practical information, NOT personal unless Panic can use it as insurance against yourself or another character. Once you have paid the entry fee for a character (aka posted in this thread), you are free to RP in the Sanctuary as many times as you want. |
