Set in current Day
Stumblefoot paused before he stepped foot into the warriors' den. He still could not get over the feeling that this was his new home after rigorous moons of training and staying in the apprentices' den. The sun setting provided a gloriously bright orange and pink sky. There were a few cats stirring inside preparing for the night. He did not have to go on patrol tonight because he had a patrol early in the morning. Stumblefoot's day had been excruciatingly since the twolegs' were absent. After his patrol he hunted for the clan and then went to grab some herbs for the medicine cat, stocking up on medical supplies before the twolegs' came back. Then he hunted some more, this time trying to catch some fish with his big paws as a treat for Riverclan. It was also an excuse to see a certain someone...
The tall tabby made his way over to his nest thinking about everything that has happened over the course of just a few moons. There were whisperings of cats disappearing within all the clans. It seemed, so far, that Riverclan, had faired the best. There was no way to know if it would keep up, however.
Quailpaw.
He missed the little gray tom. He had not spoken to his fellow apprentice much, but now he would never get the chance to get to know him better. They both would have been warriors together by now. Stumblefoot's eyes flicked naturally over to an empty bed imagining Quailpaw there. How many more Riverclanners would they lose? It was hard to say, but they had done a great job so far of evading the twolegs' weird contraptions. The tom hoped that he would not lose anyone important to him. His twin sister, Autumnleaf, was not back to camp yet. Would he lose her too?
No.
He would not think about that possibility. The two, somehow, had managed to scrape up a better relationship over the moons. There were more serious things to think about now rather than petty drama they had when they were younger. Riverclan had to stick together to survive. It was about cooperation and coordination now. They had to help each other. Autumnleaf's firecracker personality was more restrained now, taut. While they never talked to each other about romance (although Autumnleaf's relationship was obvious), they both recognized and respected that they each had someone they cared about and needed to protect at all costs. Autumnleaf did not know the specifics of who Stumblefoot was seeing, but she implied on more than one occasion that he looked lovestruck creeping back into the warriors' den. She asked him once if it was perhaps a she-cat that was still an apprentice, so he might feel weird about publicly showing their relationship. He had silently chuckled at that for a few reasons: what she-cat apprentice would he possibly be in a relationship with? Lotuspaw? Absurd. Second, it was a bit hypocritical of his sister to suggest he liked a she-cat when Autumnleaf was not with a tom.
As Stumblefoot approached his nest, his ears flicked to the sound of movement.
